Crystal Quest Frostlands is the latest installment in Thunderkick’s Crystal Quest series of fantasy adventure slot games, which has so far followed the main character Gemma through the treacherous temples of Mesoamerica and the hidden realms hidden in thick, humid jungles. 

As the title suggests, Frostlands takes the Crystal Quest adventure north of Canada, where a harsh arctic environment awaits. With big avalanches and massive symbols that literally crush others in its path, this new part of the series is definitely worth trying.

A chunk of ice serves as each symbol position in Crystal Quest: Frostlands’ 6×4 playing grid with 4096 ways to win. Gems buried in the ice symbolize low-paying symbols, while symbols that explode from the ground represent higher-paying ones. Despite this, though, the wizard and yeti remain the most prominent icons.

To win, land 3 or more matching symbols or wilds on neighbouring reels starting from the left. Stakes vary from C$0.10 to C$100 each spin, which is standard across all Thunderkick slots. Bonus Game

Theme, Design, and Audio

Like other games in the Crystal Quest series, Thunderkick has done a great job of rendering the Frostlands and its dangerously frigid environment. While keeping with the same art style as previous instalments helps keep the theme coherent, we can’t help but feel that Thunderkick could have done more to make each game distinct in its own ways.

Our Crystal Quest Frostlands Review Summary

We were eager to see what this Thunderkick episode had in store for us after the previous three releases in the series. However, it’s clear that Thunderkick only aims to make incremental upgrades to each new instalment. Although the game still stands well on its own merit, Crystal Quest Frostlands lends itself to being compared to its predecessors, and in that respect, we feel it hasn’t set itself apart enough.
