Light & Wonder, Kindred Group Receive Operator Licenses in Ontario

by Ralph Trayfalgar Updated:

The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario has granted operator licenses to casino game developers Light & Wonder and the Kindred Group - two new additions to the list of Ontario online gambling firms that will be serving Ontarians in the province’s newly-regulated online gambling market on April 4.

The two will be joining a long list of other famous gaming providers and operators, including names such as PointsBet, WSOP, Bragg Gaming, 888Casino and BetRivers, among many others.

Prior to its formal opening at the beginning of next month, the Malta-based Kindred Group plc, has been given the go-ahead to debut its sports betting and iGaming products in Canada's largest market.

Unibet is Kindred's flagship brand and will get its sixth iGaming North American license as a result of this agreement.  Its services will be made available to bettors and gamers in Ontario through the on.unibet.ca website. Unibet's mobile applications will be made accessible through the Google Play Store and the Apple Store on the April 4 opening date.

Amanda Brewer, Kindred Group manager for Canada, described the announcement as a significant milestone in the continued growth of the company, especially as Ontario is one of the most profitable markets in North America.

Light & Wonder was recently rebranded from Scientific Games and its Ontario license marks the company’s sixth regulated jurisdiction in North America, following New Jersey and Connecticut, among others.

After the opening, Light & Wonder will be distributing their highly popular OpenGaming content aggregation platform to regulated online casinos in Ontario. The OpenGaming platform boasts a collection of well over 2,500 online casino games in addition to useful business development and management tools for online casino operators.

Robert Hays, the company's managing director for the Americas, expressed his company's delight at receiving the license, which will allow them to enter a market in which their games "have resonated with gamers for years.”

This new online casino license is also viewed as a big step forward in the company's efforts to grow into the private sector, and it represents a significant achievement for the organization. Operators will have access to a selection of games that have been produced by Light & Wonder's in-house team of developers. Third-party releases are included on the list, as well as well-known games such as Marvelous Mouse Coin Combo, 88 Fortunes, and Dancing Drums Explosion, among others.

Light & Wonder is committed to maintaining its position as the world's leading cross-platform gaming firm, and the new Ontario gaming license is an important step in that direction.
